Five environment-friendly police boats to navigate waters from 2025

The keels have been laid for two new boats for Hamburg's water police in the Estonian shipyard Baltic Workboats AS at a cost of EUR 17 million. The vessels will replace two coastal patrol boats WS 1 and WS 2 from the 1990s and the two vessels WS 20 and WS 22. A special feature of the new boats is their environment-friendly propulsion system. As plug-in hybrids, they can be powered fully electrically for up to two hours.

New vessels expand hybrid-powered  fleet

The fleet has had good experiences with plug-in hybrid drives. The new boats will be the fourth and fifth hybrid-powered boats. The environment-friendly drive is set to become the new, innovative standard for the company, according to Karsten Schönewald, CEO of Flotte Hamburg. The new boats are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and will be used in Cuxhaven and Hamburg. "These boats are far more than mere means of deployment for our employees. On the one hand, they are workplaces and,on the other, places of social interaction at sea, They have to meet the high demands placed on them during operations," said André Bertram, head of the water police.
