Bergedorf Innovation Park

The Innovationspark Bergedorf offers companies new sites within an established research and innovation ecosystem for the industrial energy transition. Here, applied research and production come together, creating particularly favourable conditions for developing, testing and applying new technologies on an industrial scale. Over many years, a strong research and innovation hub has developed at the Innovationspark Bergedorf: the Competence Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CC4E) at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) conducts research into energy systems and energy storage, Fraunhofer IWES  into wind energy, and Fraunhofer IAPT into technologies for sustainable additive manufacturing. The Innovationspark Bergedorf expands this environment by providing new sites for companies that benefit from close proximity to research institutions, infrastructure and industrial partners.

Industrial energy transition and additive manufacturing

The Innovationspark Bergedorf is aimed particularly at technology-oriented companies that want to develop, test or scale solutions for the energy transition and climate-neutral industrial production. Its profile combines fields of research with technologies that are already relevant today for production, energy supply and mobility: renewable energy, energy storage, grids & system integration, decarbonisation and additive manufacturing form the main focus areas. Research, scaling and production are intended to come together here in one location. Real-world laboratories and sector coupling create the conditions for translating scientific findings more quickly into industrial applications and value creation.

A unique innovation ecosystem

From research hub to industrial ecosystem

The Innovationspark Bergedorf is taking shape: almost €500 million in public and private investment has already been initiated. Körber Technologies alone is investing more than €200 million in a new site for production, development and administration. This is complemented by extension buildings for Fraunhofer IAPT, CC4E and Fraunhofer IWES, as well as investments by Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH). In the immediate vicinity of the Innovationspark, the Swedish company Flower is also planning to build a large-scale battery storage facility with a capacity of 400 MWh. These investments are strengthening the research and energy infrastructure at the location and creating important conditions for further private investment and long-term industrial value creation.

Connected beyond Hamburg

The Innovationspark Bergedorf is part of a broader innovation and location strategy. Through the northern HY-5 Alliance and the Innovation and Science Parks for Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen (IWP) network of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, the location is connected with other energy and innovation regions. At the same time, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is strengthening the economic corridor between Hamburg, Copenhagen and southern Sweden. In this way, Bergedorf combines local strengths with national and international networks and exemplifies Hamburg’s strategy of creating future-oriented locations for innovation, industry and sustainable growth.
