10 April 2024
Strategic partnership to focus on pioneering research projects

The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron(DESY) and the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (HSU/UniBw H) agreed Tuesday (March 26, 2024) to intensify their strategic and operational partnership. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Helmut Dosch, Director of DESY, and Prof. Dr. Klaus Beckmann, University President, in a bid to meet the latest social challenges and in future.

Co-operation to advance innovative solutions

"DESY and HSU/UniBw H are inputting their expertise in this co-operation to conduct joint research at the highest scientific level and to develop innovative solutions in forward-looking areas and socially highly relevant fields of application," said Dosch. HSU’s annual action day was open to external researchers this year for the first time to increase networking and raise the visibility of research. Scientists also had an opportunity to present their latest projects and to share their ideas.

Milestone for cutting-edge research in Hamburg

DESY and HSU/UniBw H have already collaborated successfully on e.g., joint doctoral projects as part of the Hamburg Graduate School DASHH (Data Science in Hamburg - Helmholtz Graduate School for the Structure of Matter) and in various fields.  Both institutions are cultivating collaborations in laser research and research into quantum materials. This  latest agreement should boost cutting-edge research in Hamburg.
