Hamburg unveils concept for UITP 2025

UITP and Team Hamburg present roadmap for international mobility summit (June 15-18)

Team Hamburg consisting of the City of Hamburg, Hamburger Hochbahn, MOIA and Hamburg Messe und Congress unveiled Tuesday (October 15, 2024) its agenda for the leading urban mobility summit, UITP 2025, underway from June 15-18 in Hamburg. Preparations are now going full speed ahead for Hamburg's first-ever stint as host of the leading summit. More than 400 exhibitors, 2,800 delegates and 10,000 visitors including Deutsche Bahn, Siemens and MAN are expected at the summit. Around 85 per cent of the exhibition space has already been sold. Hamburg is also hosting the UITP summit in 2027. The German government has earmarked EUR 8 million for both summits.

UITP summit to bring tomorrow's mobility to life

The many projects at  UITP will bring tomorrow's mobility to life. Organised as an interactive event, examples of urban transport across the entire spectrum of Hamburg's mobility transition will be presented in six halls. Emphasis will be on the expanded and upgraded metro network, the fleet of e-buses in Hamburg, the ALIKE elevated railway project, MOIA's on-demand shuttles and the bike culture project. Start-ups can present their ideas and make contacts on a special platform. Applications are being accepted on this website. The annual conference of the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) will also be held during the UITP summit 2025. All of this will be complemented by a mobility festival for the public in the city centre on June 14, 2025.

Public transport as backbone of mobility transition

Hamburg’s innovative concept and a sustainable strategy for mobility transition sealed its bid to host the summit. As a result, the city’s flagship transport projects will take centre stage during next year’s summit and in 2027. "Hamburg shows far beyond local and national borders how a major city can strengthen public transport as the backbone of the mobility transition, rethink roads for everyone and put people at the centre of transport policy," said Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition. He added: "We see the congress as an opportunity to share the sector's responses to the challenges of climate change, the environment, health and standard of living and to discuss them with the international community.”

Lasting, growing legacy for Hamburg

"Hosting UITP involves far more than a positive impact on public transport and the local economy. It is also about the impact on the host city of Hamburg," said Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary General of UITP.
