The 2,000 square metre depot in Barmbek will provide space for charging and repairing up to ten driverless vehicles. Hochbahn will operate the shuttles, manufactured by Holon, will hit roads across Hamburg roads from 2025, initially without passengers and with a safety driver on board. The on-demand shuttles can be booked on the HVV Switch and MOIA apps from 2026 initially for a closed user group. Hochbahn's shuttles are barrier-free and can transport up to 15 people. They will be operated from the Stadtpark to the Elbe and from Schlump to Wandsbek.
Mobility transition progressing in Hamburg
Hamburger Hochbahn is to start building its first depot for autonomous shuttles in mid-May. Infrastructure for autonomous ride pooling is to be created in the north of the city as part of the"ALIKE" project. The first test vehicles are due to roll out of the depot in the second half of 2025.

German government provides EUR 26 million in funds
The German Ministry for Digital and Transport has earmarked EUR 26 million in funds for the "ALIKE" project. The aim is to expand public transport with flexible and autonomous services. The Institute of Transport (IfV) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Ministry of Transport and Mobility Transition are also involved in the project.
