DAX group to promote culture of innovation at state-of-the-art technology centre

Beiersdorf AG is planning to invest EUR 60 million in a state-of-the-art technology centre at its headquarters in Hamburg, Stefan De Loecker, Chairman of the Executive Board, announced Thursday (November 19, 2020). The new centre is scheduled to open in late 2024 and will combine research, development and production.

Boosting innovation in Hamburg

Employees will be able to do their own experiments and produce cosmetic innovations on a small scale in the technology centre in future. De Loecker noted: "Despite the crisis, we are focusing on innovation and are investing more than EUR 60 million in the technology centre. This will strengthen our culture of innovation and significantly expand our position as a leading global expert in skin care." Commenting on the plans, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, said: "The new facility will be a great asset for the city's innovation landscape. Hamburg is a forward-looking technology location in Europe. Science, research and industry are closely networked and develop new products here together."

Exchange with internal and external stakeholders

The technology entre is to be built in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel near the new group headquarters and the production centre Beiersdorf Manufacturing Hamburg GmbH. The building will provide space for exchange and co-operation with internal and external stakeholders including start-ups, research institutes, universities, as well as customers and suppliers. "Thanks to the excellent technical equipment, we will be able to develop, test and market prototypes and new products much faster," said De Loecker. The technology centre is part of a Germany-wide investment offensive which will see Beiersdorf invest more than half a billion euros in the Beiersdorf Campus and on a new plant in Leipzig.
