12 per cent increase - throughput of 6.3 million tonnes
Austria achieved a new record of goods handled in the Port of Hamburg with an increase of 12 per cent and a throughput of 6.3 million tonnes, a press release said Tuesday (March 21, 2023). Last year, Voestalpine AG imported around 2.9 million tonnes of iron ore and coal - an increase of 27 per cent - destined for Austria via the Port of Hamburg. A leading global steel and technology group, Voestalpine decided in 2019 to import some of its raw materials via Hamburg and is now among its key partners.
