The City of Hamburg backs forward-looking, integrative and socio-political ideas that often cannot be realised otherwise. Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, stressed the importance of funding interdisciplinary projects as they reflect the diversity of the artistic output in Hamburg: "Art has the power to put people into contact with each other and to let them experience what divides them, but above all what connects them. This power is especially important in times like these as it can highlight the importance of values such as democracy, peace and solidarity. We invite artists in Hamburg's independent scene to create these spaces with their projects and are backing their efforts through the 'Elbkulturfonds'."
Artists in Hamburg now have until the deadline of June 1, 2022 to apply online for grants after the Ministry of Culture and Media made EUR 500,000 available as part of the "Elbkulturfonds 2023". The subsidies benefit non-commercial projects in the visual arts, music, dance, performance, architecture, design, photography and literature.
Funds to boost diversity
EUR 50,000 to 100,000 per project
A jury of five independent experts will decide on the recipients of subidies between EUR 50,000 and 100,000. The "Elbkulturfonds" stands especially for participation and opposes discrimination. The ministry welcomes applications from artists with motor, visual, auditory or cognitive impairments, as well as applications that enable or promote the cultural participation of people with impairments in projects.
