"Kreativplanet Jupiter, right in central Hamburg, has impressively demonstrated the key role of culture and the creative industries in the development of urban centres," said Jana Schiedeck, State Councillor for Culture and Media. Jupiter was part of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft's creative interim use scheme from 2021 to April 2025. The former department store in Mönckebergstraße was transformed into a "creative department store'" with a bar, changing exhibitions, pop-ups, concerts, shops, educational courses and other cultural and creative offers. The conversion has turned Jupiter into an open, vibrant space for culture, innovation and encounters, according to the DASL.
Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft's "Jupiter" project won a special prize at the 2025 German Urban Development Award (GUDA), a press release said Saturday (July 26, 2025). Presented under the theme of "Conversion Culture in the Circular City", the prize honours concepts that breathe new life into vacant infrastructure in an innovative manner. The German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning (DASL) has presented the award to projects that make a sustainable and positive contribution to urban development for 45 years.
