"Art house cinemas are at the heart of Hamburg's film culture and help ensure an audience for 'Moin-funded' films. The bonus celebrates and supports this commitment," said Helge Albers, Managing Director of Moin Filmförderung. The amount of support received is calculated according to the number of Moin-funded films, the number of viewers, the size of the cinema and the capacity of the auditorium. Cinemas can each receive a maximum of €10,000.
Art house cinemas in Hamburg will receive an additional €100,000 this year from the "Moin Kinobonus" run by Moin Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein bringing the total to €200,000. This comes after the Ministry of Culture and Media's decision to increase the budget. The funds will be awarded as part of the Hamburg Cinema Awards, which will be presented on September 8, 2025 in the Magazin Filmkunsttheater.

Strengthening Hamburg as a film centre
This initiative strengthens Hamburg as a centre of film and media. The local cinema industry can look forward to many positive developments this year. Filmtage Köln recently announced that it will be moving to Hamburg in 2026, where it will merge with the Kino film theatre congress. This year's film festival will be held alongside the European Work in Progress and the International Film Distribution Summit to form the "Industry Days" from September 29 to October 2, 2025.
