Tax-free bonus proportionate to working hours
Hamburg increases by one third
The German government and those of the states had set up the special bonus on May 19, 2020. The City of Hamburg has increased the amount by nearly EUR 9 million or one third of the total sum. The insurers will issue the funds to employers who had filed an application by late June. Eligible employees receive the bonus with their salaries and are legally entitled to it provided all the requirements have been met.
Bonus as an employer model
Under the employer model, employees who have worked for at least three months from March 1, 2020 can receive up to EUR 500 from the City of Hamburg, but not the bonus and in accordance with SGB XII. Employers can request that the Grundsicherung und Soziales offices include the funds in their budget at the end of 2020.
