The agenda includes a conference on maritime security and two other conferences on "Maritime Engineering for Climate Protection" and "The Port of the Future". Talks will centre on the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence for the maritime industry and hiring talented young professionals. Excursions to ships and exhibitions usually round off the conference. Guests invited onto the “Rickmer Rickmers” sailing ship will have an opportunity to watch the arrival of grand vessels during the 836th Port Anniversary Celebrations on May 9.
The German Shipping Days get underway from May 6-8, 2025 in Hamburg to raise awareness of shipping, shipbuilding and the port industry. The world would come to a standstill without efficient shipping. Global supply chains would be interrupted, shopping shelves would remain empty and online retailer would be unable to deliver goods.
Agenda of German Shipping Days
Role of ports for economy
Shipping is crucial to both north Germany and German foreign trade overall. Last year, a total of 274 million tonnes of goods were handled in German seaports despite difficult economic conditions, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This marks an increase of 2.3 percent over 2023. Hamburg once again handled the most with 97 million tonnes. "It shows that Germany, with its diverse port landscape, is well positioned to meet the various requirements. The figures again impressively underline the key role of seaports for the economy as a whole," said Angela Titzrath, President of the German Seaports Association (ZDS).
