Future Hamburg Talk meets Maximilian Webers, CEO of Colipi

Palm oil gaining popularity despite notoriety - Maximilian Webers and Colipi developing sustainable alternative

Palm oil is used in anything from detergents, packet soups to organic petrol and counts among the world’s key raw materials. However, its cultivation has a devastating impact on the environment and accelerates climate change. Meanwhile, companies in Hamburg are working on an alternative to palm oil. In our latest Future Hamburg Talk, Maximilian Webers, CEO of Colipi, and the other two founders of the biotech start-up have come up with a so-called "climate oil" for use in cosmetics, food and bioplastics. Webers points out: "We are a brewery that produces oils rather than beers." Crucially, this alternative raw material could go a long way towards reducing the carbon footprint of such products. Last year, Colipi's climate oil yielded the trio the Future Hamburg Award. Now, Webers reveals how the innovative technology works, the role of yeast and where the founders see themselves five years from now
