The Hamburg-based Colipi biotech company, transforms renewable carbon from organic by-products and carbon dioxide into microbial Climate Oil. This alternative to palm oil can be used in various fields - from cosmetics to bioplastics production. The Israeli Make My Day start came second with its smart mobility solutions to help companies, fleets and automotive leaders transition to all-green electric vehicles. Its portfolio includes anything from fleet management and optimised route planning tools to an app that predicts battery consumption. The Italian AraBat start-up followed in third place up with a novel means of retrieving metals from batteries by leveraging agri-food waste and marketing the secondary raw materials recovered. This unique approach helps clients to become more resource efficient and advances the circular economy.
The Colipi start-up won the top Future Hamburg Award Thursday (October 5, 2023), presented by Hamburg Marketing during Plug and Play's Expo in the Factory Hammerbrooklyn. The Make My Day and Arabat start-ups followed in second and third place. Start-ups in 28 countries with business models in logistics, mobility and green technology had applied for the contest focusing on smart solutions for more sustainability and higher standards of living in future.

Startup Unit Hamburg to back winners
Hamburg Invest's Startup Unit has invited the three winning teams to take part in its scheme and will mediate contacts to investors and forge a network. Moreover, Colipi's prize allows the founders to take part in a one-month accelerator at the Plug and Play Tech Center headquarters in Silicon Valley, California. The Make My Day start-up will be mentored by an established technology innovation expert while AraBat can attend a business preparation workshop with Plug and Play.
The main partner of the Future Hamburg Award, "Plug and Play Tech Center", has a network of over 60,000 start-ups and 500 companies in more than 20 industries in over 50 places worldwide. The Future Hamburg Award honours forward-looking start-ups that excel in terms of innovation, impact and growth. Initiated by Hamburg Marketing GmbH and the business development agency Hamburg Invest in 2018, the award distinguishes honours international and national start-ups whose digital and sustainable business models have been on the market for at least two years and four years maximum. The Future Hamburg Award is presented every two years.
