Free admission to museums in Hamburg thanks to #seeforfree

51 museums to open their doors free of charge on October 31, 2025

Reformation Day coincides with "Museum Day" one October 31, 2025 in Hamburg. Then, a record 51 museums and art galleries will open their doors free of charge as part of the #seeforfree campaign offering all kinds of events including multilingual guided tours. The German Painting and Varnishing Museum, the Hamburg Police Museum, the Science Centre Wald, the Urbaneo - Young Architecture Centre and the Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe are new to the event. More and more private museums have joined the initiative in recent years.

#seeforfree -explore Hamburg's museums 

The exhibitions include both permanent collections and special exhibitions such as "Huguette Caland - A Life In A Few Lines" in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, "Anders Zorn. Sweden's Superstar" in the Hamburger Kunsthalle and "Care! When Love Becomes Work" at the Museum of Work. Visitors can  look forward to a vast special agenda. The steamship "Schaarhörn", and the general cargo ship "Bleichen'" and a harbour tugboat can be explored during the Open Ship event in the Hamburg Maritime Foundation. Visitors can also go on an individual tour of the museusm. 

The #seeforfree campaign gives people an opportunity to debate various social issues and from different perspectives. The diverse museums in Hamburg e.g., large museums that exhibit international masterpieces and smaller collections reflect our city's defining characteristics namely openness, curiosity, and the joy of shared discovery," said Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media.
