In 2024, men earned a higher median salary (€4,138) than women (€3,793). This was due to different occupations and industries as well as gaps caused e.g., by parental leave. However, the gender pay gap decreased slightly by €21 over 2023 and now comes to €346 per month.
Full-time employees in Hamburg earned the highest average gross monthly salary of €4,527 followed by the states of Baden-Württemberg and Hesse in 2024. Across Germany, the median income came to €4,013. This amounted to a 5.7 per cent rise or €218 over the previous year due mainly to higher collective wage agreements, according to the Federal Employment Agency.
