The ongoing pandemic has forced the cancellation of the "Easter in the Elbphilharmonie" festival due to be opened by conductor Raphaël Pichon and the Pygmalion ensemble. A recording of Johann Sebastian Bach's "St. Matthew Passion", performed by the French Baroque ensemble, will instead be broadcast on the Elbphilharmonie's live stream at 7:30 p.m on Good Friday (April 2). Pichon and Pygmalion performed the original concert as part of the traditional Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival on March 30 and 31, but without an audience.
Bach, Haydn, Beethoven live and as video-on-demand
The Elbphilharmonie is offering music lovers live streams of Bach's "St. Matthew Passion", Haydn's "Seven Last Words" and the "Best of Beethoven" on its website between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The Elbphilharmonie will broadcast "The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross" by Joseph Haydn at 8:15 p.m on Saturday (April 3) with texts by the bestselling author Wolfgang Herrndorf, performed by Ensemble Resonanz and the actor Birgit Minichmayr. The finale at 8:15 p.m. on Easter Sunday will be the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala. Touted as "electrifying", the concert features works by Mozart, Poulenc and Rantala's "Best of Beethoven". All streams are available on the Elbphilharmonie's website and as video on demand later.
