Emphasis is on longevity, staying healthy, and a busy lifestyle up into the twilight years through intergenerational living and working. Therefore, the target group includes both 30-year-olds and 60-year-olds. "A good mix of age groups is at the heart of our concept," Henning Weiss, co-founder of The Embassies of Good Living AG, told Hamburg News during a tour of the building. Demographic trends, the wish to remain active in later life and the search for new properties, especially in city centres, are already causing demand to outstrip supply in the new building. "We are receiving a large number of enquiries and from people in the U.S., who are considering relocating given the current situation," said Weiss
Switzerland’s “The Embassies of Good Living AG” is preparing to open 45 high-quality flats for over 50-year-olds in the listed Hindenburghaus on Großer Burstah this spring. The mixed-used, 1,200 square-metre building for "people who never want to retire fully" is set to become a model of co-living and co-working bang in the middle of Hamburg in close proximity to the Elbphilharmonie and City Hall. Elderly residents can soon look forward to life in a lively, busy building.

"Anti-retirement home"
Hopes are now high that the residents of this “anti-retirement home” will stand proudly outside saying: 'This is my new home'. This co-living experience aims to redefine ageing," said Weiss. Residents will have access to a 24-hour concierge. The building will also feature co-working spaces with workshops and talks, extensive wellness facilities such as yoga, sauna, gym and massages. A café, bar and event space will encourage socialising and culture. The club will also be open to non-residents. "A very successful mixed-use concept, in which the different uses create real synergies, and the residents bolster the city centre with their purchasing power," said Robert Bojdecki of Hamburg Invest, who was involved in the approval of the project.
Porsche AG among shareholders
The building is now being renovated and converted. The Swiss company “The Embassies” will manage the building with its shareholder Porsche, the Berlin-based community building developer, Charly Ventures, and the Quest project developer. "We are delighted to open our first German branch in Hamburg. The city is known for its cosmopolitanism and vibrant culture, thanks to its tradition as a port city and historical melting pot of cultures," says Jan Garde, founder of The Embassies of Good Living AG. The network is set to expand across the globe in the coming years.
