"Athleticum closes a gap between the hospital, sport and everyday life. Our aim is to enable people to keep moving and to treat injuries or chronic complaints holistically as a team," said Prof Dr Götz Welsch, Director of Athleticum. This latest centre represents a new, integrative approach that combines state-of-the-art medical technology, digital diagnostics, interdisciplinary therapy, rehabilitation and corporate health in one health concept. Doctors, physiotherapists and sports scientists work closely to treat patients individually and holistically. The services include orthopaedics, cardiology, sports medicine, physiotherapy, training, preventive medicine, ophthalmology and radiology.
The University Medical Centre Eppendorf (UKE), Philips, the Cargo Transport Pool (CTP Group) and HSV Fußball AG opened Thursday (November 20, 2025) the new 5,000 square Athleticum - Centre for Athletic Medicine near the Volksparkstadion and the HSV campus. The centre offers state-of-the-art diagnostics, therapy, rehabilitation and prevention to professional and athletes as well as companies that wish to boost their employees health and performance.
Athleticum to close gap
Cutting-edge medicine
All those involved input different expertise in care, research and prevention. The UKE is seizing the opportunity of digitalisation and networking to expand sports medicine. "The UKE is advancing and growing modern university medicine. During this phase, new shores need to be reached both structurally and digitally," said Prof Dr Christian Gerloff, Medical Director and CEO of UKE. Philips is also contributing state-of-the-art solutions for digital and imaging medicine - from high-end diagnostics and data-based therapy support to digital platforms for integrated care.
Thinking health beyond sport
CTP Health will operate a medical supply store in Athleticum and supplement the medical and technological concept with expertise in care and rehabilitation. HSV trains and nurtures players and discovers tomorrow's stars. The new centre takes a holistic approach to health that goes far beyond the soccer pitch. It opens up HSV's infrastructure and combines performance, prevention and community. The Athleticum am Volkspark combines medical excellence and sporting passion, said Stefan Kuntz, a member of HSV's Board of Directors.
