"We are relieved that our hygiene measures have been so well received and that we can again welcome more holidaymakers to our terminals," said Katja Bromm, Head of Press & New Media at Hamburg Airport. "Nevertheless, we are still a long way from normal operations. Passenger numbers are only at 20 per cent of the holiday volume of previous years," she noted. The number of flights to destinations on the Mediterranean has doubled in July over June. Lufthansa has also significantly increased its feeder flights to Munich and Frankfurt giving Hamburg even better connections to the international network.
Passenger numbers at Hamburg Airport had risen to over 10,000 daily passengers by mid-July with up to 140 take-offs and landings after a quiet period caused by the corona pandemic. The volume of traffic has almost doubled since summer holidays began. The airport has put all kinds of measures in place including clear regulations on spacing and has stepped up hygiene and cleaning measures to ensure safe travel.

Hygiene measures
Safety measures at the airport include compulsory masks, cleaning teams, mobile contact persons, Plexiglas panels, hand disinfectant dispensers, information posters, markings and self-service machines for masks, hygienic wipes and gels.
