Science City Day offers a variety of insights into the future of research with hands-on experiments and exciting scientific demonstrations. One of the highlights is a colourful photo exhibition, which takes visitors through the history of the urban utopia to the present-day Science City. Young researchers at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft will present their solutions to pressing issues in short demonstrations. A VR station in the Helmholtz Centre Hereon is among other highlights. Visitors can experience science in 360°. Simply put on a pair of virtual reality goggles to get a glimpse of materials such as implants that dissolve when a wound or pain heals.
Residents of Hamburg can look forward to Science City Day on June 1, 2024 in Bahrenfeld and get to know innovations and research institutions there. The day of events is being organised by the Ministry of Science, Research, Equality in co-operation with the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) and the German Electron Synchotron DESY. Admission is free
Agenda of Science City Day
Science City Bahrenfeld on growth course
Science City Bahrenfeld is among key urban development projects in the city. Hopes are now high that the district, which is being built near the Volkspark Altona, will be completed by the 2040s. It should offer a mix of commerce, science, living and leisure. R&D areas for around 4,000 researchers and teachers and some 3,000 students are also to be built there. The recently-opened Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD) is now a state-of-the -art facility for research into quantum materials. More housing, day-care centres, schools, shops, sports and leisure facilities are also being built as a model of urban development in future.
