Hamburg's "Intro" scheme for international artists enters next round

22 June 2023
Calling all expatriate artists: Apply now until deadline on July 6, 2023 - scheme caters to people seeking refuge and protection in Hamburg

Applications are now being accepted online for the Ministry of Culture and Media’s “Intro” scheme in support of expatriate artists seeking shelter in Hamburg. Eight intercultural grants of EUR 200,000 are available. Entries must be submitted by the deadline of July 6, 2023. Recipients can work in cultural institutions across Hamburg and complete their own projects in co-operation with other artists.

Networking with Hamburg's cultural scene

"Our current global political situation has serious consequences for artists in many countries. Anyone who has to leave their home country because of repression, censorship or war and comes to Hamburg needs a perspective here for their artistic work," said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. The "Intro" scheme addresses this need and links up international artists with Hamburg's cultural scene. "The scheme opens up the art and cultural landscape to international artists and contributes to the diversity of Hamburg as a city of culture," he added.

Training, consulting and workshops

International artists from all disciplines can apply for the scheme with a cultural institution or independent group. An expert jury selects the recipients. The teams receive training and consulting in co-operation with "Artist Training" at the Berlin Career College of the University of the Arts. Artists can network with representatives of cultural institutions and associations in meetings organized by the Ministry of Culture in Hamburg. Workshops will give the participants information about working as freelance artists in the city. The artists will also have an opportunity to work on their projects in co-operation with the Fluctoplasma Festival and present them in autumn 2024.
