"After the exciting first festival, we will continue to develop the 'Open Mouth Hamburg Food Festival' in the coming years for locals and guests alike," said Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH. A city that is attractive to its residents will also attract visitors, he noted, adding: "We want to bring people together so that they can experience the remarkable diversity and the power of connection as well as the cultural value of food and drink," said Otremba, who hopes that this will add momentum to sustainable tourism development.
Organisers of the Open Mouth Hamburg Food Festival, which will open its doors from September 12-16, 2024, have hailed Hamburg as a “creative hotspot for foodies”. This year, visitors can see all the latest trends under the theme of "eat, drink, marvel" and marvel at novel foods as well as local producers’ sustainable concepts. Around 7, 500 visitors attended the first festival of this kind last autumn.
Momentum for sustainable tourism
Culinary experiences among highlights
Hamburg's latest food festival is organised by Hamburg Marketing and Tellerrand Consulting, which drew up the concept. "We are focussing on five main levels each of which represents a key aspect of human life and boosts the integration of community, culture, producers, education and food and drink," said Patrick Rüther, Managing Director of Tellerrand Consulting. The festival will unfold in the Oberhafenquartier with tastings, talks, panel discussions and music and attracted around 3,500 visitors in 2023. Various culinary experience points in and outside the city are among this year’s highlights. "The Open Mouth Food Festival is far more than an event; it is a platform that brings people together to celebrate, learn, share and create a world of diversity and inspiration together," Rüther noted.
Partners wanted
The content and partners will be curated using a concept focusing on producers, manufacturers, gastronomy and hospitality across the region. A new selection process will launch on June 1. All regional businesses are invited to participate with their own campaigns and sustainable ideas.
