"As an airport team, we have prepared ourselves very conscientiously and expect a smooth start to the holidays," said Katja Bromm, Head of Communications at Hamburg Airport. More staff have been assigned to critical points such as baggage handling and security, and new technology has been installed to simplify the procedure. Passengers now have the option of printing out their baggage label before checking in their luggage themselves. Federal Police have installed six new computer tomography (CT) scanners to make security checks more efficient. The "Slot & Fly" service, which allows passengers to reserve a 15-minute time slot for the security check, has been expanded to 300 slots per hour.
Hamburg Airport gearing up for busy summer season

More flights are on offer and more staff have been hired to cope with the demand. Services and technology are also being expanded. Passengers can now choose between 55 airlines and over 120 direct destinations from Hamburg Airport.
Airport expanding capacities
Earlier opening hours and extended services
The airport's terminals will open at 3.15 a.m. and the security checkpoint will be staffed from 3.30 a.m. during the holiday season and until the end of October. Several airlines are offering optional early check-in. The airport has also introduced new amenities such as massage chairs and water dispensers at the departure gates. Passengers are advised to be at the airport at least two hours before departure and to use online and pre-departure check-in as well as technical services to minimise waiting times.
