Tips for SMEs on how to save energy in 21 webinars

A series of events under the theme of "Energy-Saving Transition Now!” beginning on Monday (January 9, 2023) offers SMEs tips on how to save energy. Delegates can take part in 21 web seminars and learn how to become more energy-efficient and climate-friendlier. The service is provided by the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Environment the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts in Hamburg. The events are aimed at production companies and related sectors.

Support and funding for Hamburg companies

"Unnecessary energy consumption is currently a noticeable cost burden for businesses," said Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics and Innovation. If energy is used efficiently and consumption is reduced, businesses and the climate could benefit, she pointed out. "The offer from ministries, chambers and other partners advises businesses about tailor-made solutions for their companies. They receive support and subsidies as well." Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment, added: "Energy efficiency is frequently a question of existence because of the energy crisis and is similar to that of climate protection for our city."

Practical tips and energy-saving measures

During the webinars, delegates can learn about energy efficiency, measures such as photovoltaic systems and team motivation. The companies will also be given an overview of various advisory and support services in Hamburg. Further offers including funding schemes by the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Crafts and the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB) will be presented. The funds back projects that save energy or reduce the burden on the environment. The Körner bakery in Hamburg, for instance, will give insight into implementing climate protection measures.

Joint initiative

The events are part of the "Local Business Climate" campaign launched with the Hamburg Environmental Partnership. The senate and the chambers had already launched the energy-saving campaign "Hamburg dreht das" in September 2022. Companies, institutions and associations had urged people to save energy as part of efforts to cut consumption by 15 per cent across the city.
