"The Musikstadtfonds consists of targeted support for the independent music scene, which is an existential component of our lively and diverse music city," said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. Especially in a crisis, this support is needed to strengthen Hamburg as a city of culture in the long term and to boost the willingness among artists to experiment even in challenging times.
Hamburg’s Ministry of Culture and Media has earmarked an additional, once-off payment of EUR 90,000 (up from EUR 600,000 p.a.) for the independent music scene to offset the severe blow dealt by the COVID-19 pandemic. An independent jury has selected 35 projects from applicants including bands, orchestras, individual artists and agencies for the Musikstadtfonds 2021.
Strengthening Hamburg as a city of culture
EUR 5,000 to EUR 70,000
Grants ranging from EUR 5,000 to EUR 70,000 will be issued to projects that reflect the diversity of Hamburg's independent music scene. Classical concerto works, contemporary music, popular music and jazz, ensembles, bands, orchestras, individual artists, agencies, musical societies and associations are eligible. The funds allow artists to undertake projects that guarantee professional, artistic standards and high-quality programmes. Artists gain opportunities to develop their works and present them to the public at the same time.
Independent jury
