Busy summer traffic at Hamburg Airport

12 September 2025
Around 2.2 million passengers travelled from Hamburg Airport this summer - demand high until late October

Footfall in Hamburg Airport came to 2.2 million passengers this summer for both holiday flights and business trips, a press release said Monday (September 8, 2025).  This figure is similar to the peak in 2024, with the busiest travel day on July 25, 2025, when 55,000 passengers passed through the airport. Around ten daily flights departed from Hamburg Airport to Majorca this year making it the most popular holiday destination.

Travel boom until late October

"The summer holidays are by no means the end of the travel boom in the north. September and October have become strong travel months at Hamburg Airport. There is no talk of a low season," said Katja Bromm, Head of Communications at Hamburg Airport. Around 55 airlines now depart Hamburg to 120 direct destinations in 40 countries. The airport is expecting around 350,000 passengers a week until late October. Until then, terminals will open at 3.15 a.m. Some airlines are offering bag drop-off and check-in services the previous evening.

Upgrading Hamburg Airport

The HAM upgrade package should improve the overall passenger experience. The airport is investing €20 million by 2027 on making terminals smarter, faster and upgrading seating and offering more services.
