Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren, President of the University of Hamburg, remarked: "The demand for attractive, temporary housing for international guests has continued to increase in Hamburg in recent years. This is certainly also due to the fact that we have become a university of excellence." Katharina Fegebank, Senator for Science, Research and Equality, added: "The development clearly shows that Hamburg as a centre of science has international appeal and attractiveness."
Apartments to be ready for occupancy from 2024 - university to expand international research
The University of Hamburg laid Friday (August 26, 2022) the foundation stone for a new eight-storey guest house with 63 apartments at a cost of EUR 17 million in Hamburg-Rotherbaum. The building will house international Ph.D. students, visiting scientists and academics from 2024.

Meeting rooms to boost exchange
The step-like, red brick façade of the new guesthouse will blend visually into the surroundings. The many meeting rooms will allow scientists from different countries and disciplines to exchange ideas. The guest house is close to the university campus and downtown Hamburg.
