Ports of Halifax and Hamburg plan “Open Innovation Platform”

Platform to boost international digital co-operation

The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and the Halifax Port Authority in Canada signed a memorandum of understanding in February setting up a joint "Open Innovation Platform" to boost digital co-operation and global supply chains. The joint platform, run by The PIER and homePORT Hamburg, will exchange best practices, solutions and create synergies for projects.

Innovation ecosystems

HPA's Homeport is an innovation campus where technologies such as 3D printing, drones and autonomous vehicles are tested for use in the port industry. A digital twin or digital image of the port is also to be developed. The innovation ecosystem, "The Pier", is based on an idea and vision similar to that of Homeport. The new platform should boost co-operation and create added value.
