Port of Hamburg boosting innovations in maritime infrastructure

HPA, Hamburg Port Consulting and MAWANI join forces to modernise port operations

The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), and HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) signed Wednesday (October 16, 2024) a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the IAPH World Port Conference in Hamburg. The collaboration will advance innovations in port operations, port development and workforce capacity building. Sharing expertise and using digital technologies will allow the partners to create efficient, sustainable and future-proof port systems for optimum trade routes across the globe.

Digitalisation and sustainable infrastructure in port 

Lennart Kinau, HPA Board Member, stressed the importance of digital integration in modern port operations, adding: "This partnership strengthens our position at the forefront of digital transformation, allowing us both to enhance efficiency and governance in port management as well as to achieve new levels of sustainability along critical trade routes like the East-West corridor." The collaboration foresees the joint development of intelligent systems that will advance the digitalisation of port operations. Each partner will input their expertise. MAWANI has extensive experience in managing large port systems while HPA has expertise in port strategy and digital transformation. HPC has many years of experience in global project development and innovation management.

IAPH World Ports Conference 

The City of Hamburg hosted the IAPH World Ports Conference in early October during which the memorandum was signed. The conference brought together global experts and decision-makers in the maritime industry to focus on all the latest trends and development in port management with emphasis on digitalisation, sustainability and innovative logistics solutions.

Port of Hamburg as a global pioneer

The partnership between  HPA, HPC and MAWANI marks a significant step towards future-proof, efficient ports that boost global supply chains. By pooling their resources and expertise, MAWANI, HPA, and HPC are setting the stage for a transformative era in global port operations.
