The eye-catching hall concept in industrial design offers a unique, new trade fair experience. An installation of 350 shipping containers is set to transform the exhibition halls into a futuristic metropolis with spectacular photo motifs on a 20,000-square metre space. The annual patrons or patronesses of Photopia, such as the fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth or the British star photographer Rankin in 2022, have a decisive influence on the staging with their large-format, colourful works. The first day of the festival (September 21, 2023) is reserved for professionals with an agenda featuring product training, panels and conferences with renowned speakers.
This year's Photopia gets underway in Hamburg from September 21-24, 2023 and is likely to attract well over 10,000 professional photographers and all those passionate about movies to the grounds of Hamburg Messe und Congress, a press release said Monday (March 6, 2023). The event is being held under the theme of "Share Your Vision" near the Reeperbahn Festival.
Colourful and futuristic
Magnet for digital imaging scene
Doors will open to fans including content creators, YouTubers and amateur photographers from Friday to Sunday. Delegates can attend workshops in the Photo Academy and go on photo walks. The festival will also present the "Who's Who" of photography, videography, art and social media on two stages. Photopia will also showcase retro trends and imaging developments such as virtual and augmented reality. Another highlight is revealed in blockchain technology and will see international photo artists present their works in an NFT gallery. Digital images then become collectibles. The active photo scene will meet during Slow Photography, which is billed as an analogous circus. Impressive drone flights and light shows will be demonstrated in the Drone Zone. Photopia also features several outdoor art exhibitions, installations in containers, live photo shoots, award ceremonies, dance acts and great festival parties.
