"We are delighted that the way is now clear for a more modern administration and that another step is being taken towards the digital transformation of our country," said Jan Pörksen, State Councillor. Thanks to NOOTS, all ministries will be able to access data in future. Residents and businesses in Hamburg will no longer have to submit their information multiple times thanks to the timesaving, once-only principle. The aim is to reduce costs and the workload on the authorities and to combat the shortage of skilled labour at the same time.
New state treaty for more efficient data sharing and less bureaucracy
A new state treaty between the German government and state governments is set to boost the nationwide exchange of data and forms the basis of the "National-Once-Only-Technical-System" (NOOTS), a press release said Thursday (December 12, 2024). Hamburg has taken various initiatives and is now playing a key role in the digitalisation of local government.
Digitalisation to cut down on bureaucracy
Hamburg as a pioneer
The NOOTS system is of national importance and should ease the cross-border data exchange within the European Union. The City of Hamburg recently won the "Startup Ecosystem Stars Awards" in the "Digitalisation of Administration" category for its efforts. It has also launched the "Hamburg - Digital for You" campaign to highlight the authorities' latest online services.
