Around 37 per cent of Xing's members in Germany were working at home in early June - down from 47 per cent in early May. More than half of Germans (51 per cent) are looking forward to returning to the office. Reunions with colleagues and social contacts remain the most important motivator. Around 33 per cent of respondents in June said their productivity in the office is higher, which represents a slight drop from 37 per cent in May.
More than 62 per cent of Xing’s members surveyed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in June have expressed optimism about the future and were "positive" or "very positive" – an increase of 10 per cent over May. The Hamburg-based Xing career network gauges the mood on the labour market regularly for its so-called “Corona Barometer”.
Home office important - not dominant
Corona crisis changing entire industries
Around 43 per cent of interviewees were looking for a new job in June, although the professional situation has not changed for around 70 per cent of employees. However, despite increased job searches, around 61 per cent of those surveyed expected a difficult new start during the corona crisis. Similarly, 38 per cent felt that the industry in which they work would change completely due to the crisis. Around 29 per cent of employees are now more critical of their employers than before the corona crisis.
Corona barometer with regular survey
A total of 1,027 active Xing members including 483 in Germany took part in the survey in June. Most of the respondents are so-called white collar workers i.e. professions focusing on business, consulting, administration and engineering, artistic or creative industries, the health care sector, curative education and the social sector.
