MOIA and HANSA-Taxi launch e-charging pilot project

MOIA is granting five other companies with a total of ten taxis round-the-clock access to its fast-charging stations in Hamburg-Horn, where the vehicles can be fully charged in 20 to 30 minutes. MOIA and Hansa-Taxi will evaluate the test phase later and, if successful, add further functions such as a reservation option for using the charging stations.

"MOIA has gained extensive experience in setting up and operating decentralised charging infrastructure since 2019. It is important to input our know-how and infrastructure to create joint synergies for a successful transport transition," says Jens-Michael May, CEO of MOIA. Transport is responsible for 28.3 per cent of CO2 emissions in Hamburg, said Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport. Electrification of the 2,800 taxis with a mileage of up to 100,000 kilometres per annum could contribute considerably to climate protection. "However, we can only achieve the change in drive technology backed by our partners in business and society and by developing the best possible charging infrastructure," Tjarks pointed out. 

So-called pocket parking spaces are needed, which are hardly available in public spaces. The Ministry for Transport and Mobility Transition is subsidising the provision of such parking spaces with up to EUR 10,000. A first branch on private property has opened on the grounds of the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf at Alsterdorfer Markt, where a new taxi stand with fast-charging facilities has been in place since November 2021.
