Impact Hub Hamburg seeks urban climate innovations at Climathon

Registrations are now being accepted for the 24-hour online Climathon 2021 from October 29 to 30. Organised by Germany's seven largest Impact Hubs, including Hamburg, the hackathon seeks to come up with solutions to the most pressing urban climate issues. Cities consume around 80 per cent of the world's energy and 75 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).The Climathon is held annually in over 60 countries and more than 150 cities and focuses on the biggest local challenges to climate protection and climate justice. The event brings together entrepreneurs, students, creatives, experts and citizens.

Challenges to mobility, circular economy

During the hackathon, participants work with experts and coaches to develop concrete solutions to mobility, nutrition, circular economy, shared economy and recycling issues. The self-declared goal of the Climathon is to transform ideas into viable business models and to help the teams with their further development.

Climate innovations sought

Around 1,000 participants in Germany are expected to take part in Climathon 2021, according to Impact Hub Germany. The best teams can look forward to a five-month incubation scheme worth EUR 5,000 per team. Last year, Germany's Impact Hubs held the Climathon as an online event owing to the pandemic. Over 500 participants developed more than 40 ideas for tackling the climate crisis.
