Speed and inventiveness are the order of the day in terms of climate protection, according to Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment. "The funds for green potential screening should incentivize new thinking and innovations in processes, product development and production." The focus will be on gauging the need for action in resources and energy efficiency as well as a circular economy followed by R&D projects, which will in turn receive funding. "I hope for great interest and clever ideas. Perhaps some of them can even become climate protection export hits from Hamburg," Kerstan added.
The Ministry for the Environment has earmarked EUR 1 million to help companies identify potential for environmental and climate protection measures, a press release said Thursday (September 23, 2021). The scheme gives companies leeway to conduct a so-called "green potential screening" to identify possible means of reducing emissions and costs and generating new ideas for climate protection. Applications can be submitted via the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg) until the deadline on November 1, 2021 at the latest so that decisions can be reached this year.
