IKM-Monitoring presents data on eleven German metropolitan regions

"Monitoring is important for the perception and understanding the importance of German metropolitan regions. At the same time, it provides a very good data basis for identifying challenges, opportunities and the need for action in the metropolitan regions," said Jakob Richter, spokesperson for IKM and head of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region's Office. The data also shows how important metropolitan regions are for Germany's overall development. The monitoring gives the political sphere, local government stakeholders and businesspeople insight into the diverse structures and trends across all of Germany's metropolitan regions.

The monitoring also highlights the situation in the districts and rural areas. Key figures are collected on the labour market, education, population structure and development, finances, subsidies, settlement structure, housing and property market as well as economic performance, mobility, tourism and scientific landscape. The monitoring system offers four modules: Structural data, planning and calculation-relevant absolute values, fact sheets with brief reports on the individual regions and maps with geographical information. IKM monitoring is based on data from the Federal and State Statistical Offices, the Working Group on National Accounts of the Federal States and the Federal Employment Agency.
