"We want to attract rapidly-growing green tech companies to Hamburg and mainly companies with innovative technologies and sustainable solutions," said Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics, adding: "As a metropolis, we offer internationality, a high standard of living and an innovative environment. Hamburg has great appeal." Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, remarked: "As Germany's mobility and logistics hub and centre of the northern German hydrogen ecosystem and home to Europe's largest inner-city development project, Hamburg is better suited than any other location to scale green technologies." The Scaleup Landing Pad's funding scheme is "unique in Germany and will boost Hamburg's innovation ecosystem," he added.
Applications are now being accepted for the Scaleup Landing Pad until April 30, 2023. Launched in 2022 by the Ministry of Economics and Hamburg Invest, the scheme allows international start-ups to gain a foothold in Hamburg and to scale up their business from the Hanseatic city. Thirteen scale-ups benefited from services worth up to EUR 50,000 last year. The scheme targets fledgling, rapidly-growing technology companies in the mobility, logistics, energy and construction sectors.
Attractive location for international scale-ups
Procedure
International scale-ups with innovative green tech products can apply for funding on the heels of success in their native land and if they are in a strong growth phase. Scale-ups should not yet be established in Germany and seek access to Hamburg's ecosystem. First, the Scaleup Landing Pad connects companies with business partners and supports their pilot projects. Then, they gain access to market and location analyses and receive help hiring personnel. The scheme also provides legal aid and assistance finding work spaces and housing, if required.
Onboarding
A jury of experts will decide on the recipients of the funding. Onboarding is then scheduled to begin in May. The Scaleup Landing Pad expands Hamburg's innovation landscape and raises its visibility as an attractive start-up centre.
