Hamburg to host 2024 European Handball Championship

10 January 2024
European Men's Handball Championship to be held in Germany for the first time. Games in the tournament's main round to be played in Hamburg

Two major sports tournaments are to be held in Germany during the course of 2024 in the shape of the Handball and European Football Championships. The European Men's Handball Championship will take place between 10 and 28 January before football fever takes over in the summer in Hamburg and across Germany. The city on the Elbe is one of the five venues, along with Munich, Mannheim, Berlin and Cologne.

The following teams can qualify for the European Championship round in Hamburg

The two best teams from the qualifying groups D, E and F will compete against each other in Hamburg over the period 17 to 23 January. World Championship holder Denmark from Group F could then make its way to the city. Two more Scandinavian teams in the shape of Norway (Group D) and Sweden (Group E) are contenders for the games in the Barclays Arena. Slovenia, Poland, the Faroe Islands, the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Greece make up the other teams. Germany and the other countries in the A, B and C qualifying groups will compete to get into the first main round group to be held in Cologne. The finals will also be played there.

Advance booking for main round has begun

Hamburg handball fans can choose between two categories of ticket: A Day Ticket allows access to three games on one day of play, and a Venue Ticket is valid for all the days. Tickets for all venues are available exclusively from Eventim. Away from the arena, the Blockbräu Brewery at the Piers will be a good place to watch the European Handball championship. A fan zone with live broadcast has been set up.
