Hamburg to become window onto intelligent mobility at ITS

Plans for congress from October 11-15, 2021 presented

The upcoming ITS World Congress in Hamburg from October 11-15, 2021 will be held as an attended meet, Dr Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, Dr Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport, Jacob Bangsgaard, CEO of Ertico, and Harry Evers, Managing Director of ITS Hamburg 2021, announced Thursday (June 22, 2021) at a press conference in Hamburg's City Hall. A detailed health and hygiene concept has facilitated the in-person event at the refurbished Congress Center Hamburg (CCH). 

Impetus for mobility transition

The City of Hamburg is set to become a window onto intelligent mobility, networked transport and smart logistics of the future during the congress. The focus will be on a test track for autonomous minibuses in HafenCity, real time traffic light forecasts on mobile phones and drones for harbour surveillance and medical care, among others. 

"During ITS 2021, Hamburg will showcase mobility of the future especially autonomous driving, intelligent traffic control and digital services that make mobility more efficient, climate-friendlier and comfortable. The many pilot projects within the framework of the ITS World Congress offer key impetus for the mobility transition in Hamburg."

Six fields of action, 42 anchor projects 

The Hanseatic city has prepared six fields of action including data and information, intelligent traffic control, guidance and intelligent infrastructure, intelligent parking, mobility as a service, as well as automated and connected driving for the congresss. The city has earmarked 42 out of 200 ITS projects as anchors that are particularly important for achieving its objectives. These so-called anchor projects include the Hamburg Electric Autonomous Transportation (HEAT) autonomous shuttle bus  and the cycle traffic counting network with thermal imaging cameras. 

Free public day

Doors in the exhibition halls will open for a free public day on October 14 and at select public spaces with staged events, technical demonstration tours and live demonstrations. Those interested in Public Day can register from July on Young people in Hamburg are working on their ideas for transport in future as part of a competition underway in schools across the city.
