To ensure that the north remains an attractive centre of excellence in teaching, it is now time to pool expertise and build on common strengths. "Our society is undergoing profound transformation. Digitalisation, the energy transition and demographic change require fundamental changes in all areas of life," said Karin Prien, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister for Science. Now more than ever, research and science are crucial to meeting all these challenges. That can only be achieved through networking and cross-border collaboration.
The Ministry for Science and Research in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein's Ministry for Education, Science and Research have signed a "Letter of Intent" on closer co-operation between their universities, a press release said Tuesday (February 28, 2023). This strategic expansion should ensure the diversity and attractiveness of study courses offered in north Germany.

This latest agreement foresees closer co-operation in music teacher training and in the Alevi and Islamic religion teacher training courses of study. The long-standing collaboration between Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein has already led to many projects and facilities such as the European XFEL, the Center for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB), the Center for X-ray and Nano Research (CXNS) at DESY, and the"New 4.0 North German Energy Transition," "North German Real Laboratory" and the German Alliance for Marine Research projects.
