"We are impressed by the great response with which the broad-based ‘Zukunftstaxi ‘project has met," said Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport. "I'm particularly pleased that this will also enable us to get a significant proportion of e-taxis on Hamburg's roads as early as the ITS Congress in October." The city is gearing up to present over 40 innovative mobility projects at the World Congress for Intelligent Transport Systems and Services, which Hamburg is hosting from October 11 to 15, 2021.
Funds for the first phase of Hamburg's e-taxi "Zukunftstaxi" scheme have been exhausted just days after the project launched on April 12, 2021. The Ministry for Transport has received a large number of applications from taxi companies keen on more sustainable and inclusive vehicles. Up to EUR 10,000 are available for the purchase of 130 e-taxis and up to EUR 20,000 for 20 barrier-free inclusion vehicles in the first funding stage. A second funding phase is due to start in October.

Next funding phase in October
The Zukunftstaxi project has been launched with a view to Hamburg's climate protection targets, which aim to reduce CO2 emissions by around 1.4 million metric tons by 2030. Subsidies available as part of the Hamburg Climate Plan are supplemented by private initiatives and subsidies from taxi companies. The second stage of the scheme starts on October 1, 2021, with a further 170 e-taxis due to receive up to EUR 5,000 in funds and up to EUR 10,000 for 30 so-called inclusion taxis or e-taxis suitable for wheelchair users.
