"Oberhafen has become a lively creative quarter between HafenCity and the inner city," said Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. Several sheds and railway station buildings have been renovated there since 2011 to create a creative space area and retain the district’s original character at the same time. A variety of creative ideas have already been implemented in six tenders, including the Filmfabrique, an innovative independent film house with co-working spaces. Around 208 to 548 square metres of rental space will be allocated as part of the latest tender. "Urgently needed space is being created for Hamburg's diverse creative industries - from workshops and production spaces to music clubs. We need places that open up space for creative experiments in business and culture," Brosda pointed out.
HafenCity Hamburg GmbH and Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft are offering ten spaces in the 67,000 square-metre Oberhafenquartier for rent to turn the area into a creative industrial hub. Nine spaces are for creative projects and one space for a club is being advertised. Applications can be submitted until the deadline of January 12, 2025 with a rental period beginning on September 1, 2025.

Rental space for long-term creative use
The spaces are being offered in shell condition to allow for affordable rents and long-term flexibility in terms of design. "The special quality of the district lies in the fact that various creative value chains can be implemented here - from the initial idea through development to production and presentation," said Egbert Rühl, Managing Director of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft. The creative approach, economic viability and willingness to become involved in the district are key to the selection of tenants.
