The new pressurised heat storage facility of Hamburger Energiewerke, which is located in Peute

Infrastructure for the heating transition

In Peute, the infrastructure for the heat transition is taking shape with Hamburger Energiewerke's new pressurised heat storage facility. The domed roof weighs around 72 tonnes was recently lifted onto the 35 metre high storage facility near Georgswerder Damm. The stored heat will then be fed into Hamburg's city grid, which is over 860 kilometres long, at times of need. Ultimately, this will enable some 20,000 households to be supplied with climate-neutral district heating from the 2024/2025 heating period. The use of the heat storage facility will help save around 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually and demonstrates Hamburg's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and reducing the city's dependence on fossil fuels.
