The Wandsbek recycling center and the 'Stilbruch' second-hand store are key players in the circular economy. In the Hamburg area, the Elbe-Werkstätten offer a wide range of vocational training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Center for motor vehicle trade

Along the Friedrich-Ebert-Damm, a motor vehicle trade center has developed, which accounts for about one third of the entire commercial area. The industrial area, which covers about 70 hectares in size, does not have a clear industry focus. However, it is well suited to craft and small businesses, which is reflected in the employment figures. Its proximity to the Wandsbeker core also makes it attractive for corporate headquarters, which mainly pursue logistical purposes. In addition, there is a car mile, which is characterized by the car trade.

Headquarter of Jungheinrich

Jungheinrich AG has built its headquarters and corporate headquarters in Hamburg-Wandsbek. The five-storey building with an area of over 18,000 square meters was designed in accordance with the DGNB Silver certificate and meets high ecological and sustainability requirements. With a total investment of 25 million euros for the first construction phase, the building provided space for around 500 employees and made it possible to combine the Group's departments at one location. The strong growth of the company and the resulting second construction phase led to a total of 35,000 square meters of space, where approximately 1,000 employees work today.

Jungheinrich

The first in-house production of sack trucks and pallet trucks began in Hamburg's Barmbek district in 1948. Today, Jungheinrich AG is the world's leading solution provider in all matters and areas of intralogistics. The company produces everything from conventional material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet trucks, to fully automated automatic systems with intelligent software solutions. More than 18,000 Jungheinrich employees in 40 countries-over 5,700 in Germany alone-are engaged in optimizing material and goods flows in companies. Jungheinrich AG supplies the right trucks and warehousing technology to go with its process consulting services. The company has its headquarters at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm in Hamburg. In nearby Norderstedt (Schleswig-Holstein), industrial trucks and warehousing technology have been manufactured and assembled for the world market on the 214,000 square metre factory site since 1967. The Jungheinrich Training Center with its state-of-the-art training rooms is also located on the site.

Hemro Group

The Hemro Group comprises the four world-leading coffee grinder brands Mahlkönig, Ditting, Anfim and HeyCafé. Hotels, coffee and restaurant chains as well as commercial and private manufacturers of fully automatic espresso machines all over the world are supplied with grinding discs and grinding machine components from the Hemro Group. The portfolio includes built-in grinders for the professional sector as well as for fully automatic coffee machines for domestic use and stand-alone grinders. Mahlkönig GmbH & Co. KG and grinding disc production have been operating at the Hamburg site since 2018 under the new joint name Hemro Manufacturing Germany GmbH. The grinding machines manufactured in Wandsbek - milled from metal blanks by industrial robots - are installed in all machines from the Hemro Group. Since 1960, Mahlkönig has been manufacturing its world-famous coffee grinders at the Wandsbeker headquarters. It was not until 2020 that Mahlkönig expanded and moved into the new, technically state-of-the-art building with around 100 employees.

Smurfit Kappa

Smurfit Kappa is the world's leading supplier of paper-based packaging solutions made of corrugated board as well as corrugated base paper and for bag-in-box packaging. The company has operations in 22 countries in Europe and 13 countries in the Americas. The production sites work with raw materials from company-owned forestry and paper mills. The company invests in recycling facilities, and the recovered paper obtained here is made available for paper production. The head office of the German Packaging Division - Smurfit Kappa Germany - is located in Hamburg-Wandsbek with around 100 employees. Smurfit Kappa Service, a provider of special packaging and special materials with delivery from stock, and, since 2018, an Experience Center, are also located here in Tilsiter Straße. Brand manufacturers can explore the packaging world and its innovations and receive advice on everything from logistics and shelf impact in supermarkets to the unpacking experience on the consumer side in online business.

BAUER Elektroanlagen Nord

BAUER Elektroanlagen Holding SE is one of the largest installers of electrical systems in Germany. BAUER develops solutions for medium and large construction projects ranging from electrical engineering to security and data technology to building automation. These include public institutions or industrial companies, office complexes or hospitals, airports or research centres. The more than 1,500 employees work at 17 locations nationwide in the field of electrical installation, planning and project execution. BAUER Elektroanlagen Nord GmbH & Co. KG is located in Hamburg. In 2005, the small service location started with two employees. With more than 79 employees, it has grown into an essential pillar of the BAUER Group, which offers the entire spectrum of electrical and safety technology as well as automation in Hamburg and the surrounding area. In 2019, the new company building in Wilma-Witte-Stieg was inaugurated with greetings from the former mayor of Hamburg, Ole von Beust.

Springer Bio-Backwerk

The Springer Bio-Backwerk family business was founded in 1889 and is now run by the fifth generation of the Springer family. Eight of its own bakery stores in Hamburg offer breads, rolls and pastry specialties from the bakery. In 1999, the traditional company was converted to exclusively certified organic baked goods. One year later, the previously 'Meisterbäcker Springer' received a new logo, a fresh corporate design and was renamed Springer Bio-Backwerk. The state-of-the-art headquarters in Wandsbek-Hinschenfelde were occupied in 2012. Since 2019, Energienetz Hamburg has operated a photovoltaic system to generate electricity on the roof. From now on, the headquarters and the bakery are supplied with electricity by solar energy - the energy not used during the day is fed into the grid, from which the energy for baking is drawn at night.

PLEUGER Industries

Pleuger is an international manufacturer and supplier of submersible motors, pumps, thrusters and plunger pumps and related services. The company's products are used worldwide in the energy, mining, water, industrial processing and oil and gas industries. The company was founded in 1929 and started with the production of submersible pumps with (water filled) motors. In the 1930s, they were used, among other things, in the construction of the Berlin U-Bahn to lower the groundwater. This was followed by other major projects. After the destruction or expropriation of the Pleuger plant in Berlin during the Second World War, the company started again in 1945 with a small repair shop in Hamburg-Altona. In 1951 the plant was moved to Hamburg-Wandsbek. Today, the company is headquartered in Miami. With PLEUGER Industries GmbH Hamburg remains the development and main production location for submersible pumps and motor solutions.
