Tradition and craftsmanship

Bargkoppelweg is an established business location that is characterised by its craftsmanship. Companies such as Elektro-Ripakewitz GmbH, Grube Zentralheizungsbau- und Haustechnik GmbH and a traditional foam manufacturer emphasise this tradition. Elektro-Ripakewitz, whose history dates back to 1860, has been offering comprehensive electrical engineering services in the greater Hamburg area since 1920. Thorsten Meyer is now the fourth generation to manage the traditional family business. Grube Zentralheizungsbau- und Haustechnik GmbH, founded in 1884, stands for customised solutions in the field of heating and bathroom design. Trust is crucial here, as each project is realised individually according to the customer's wishes. The foam manufacturer has been supplying tradesmen and companies throughout Germany since 1973. With an extensive product range, it strengthens the local economy and supports customers with high-quality materials. The Bargkoppelweg site thus offers a solid foundation for innovation in craftsmanship and relies on proven traditions that are still maintained by the company today. This close connection between tradition and innovation makes Bargkoppelweg an attractive location for future-oriented craft businesses and sustainably strengthens regional economic growth.

Development potential

There is considerable development potential at the Bargkoppelweg commercial site, particularly through unused and underutilised areas that are predestined for more intensive use. These areas offer opportunities for the expansion of existing companies and the establishment of new ones. A significant proportion of the existing buildings date back to the 1960s and no longer meet the current energy and functional requirements of modern businesses. Targeted refurbishment measures can create new jobs and increase the attractiveness of the location. The revitalisation of the buildings makes it possible to integrate modern building technology and actively contribute to the climate targets of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg through climate protection measures. In addition, new architectural and urban development concepts could provide impetus for high-quality development of the entire site. Close co-operation between business, urban planning and politics can create a clear framework for sustainable growth. This could develop the Bargkoppelweg commercial site into a future-orientated and sustainable location for companies that meets the needs of modern commercial enterprises and contributes to the economic strength of the region in the long term.

Potential reorganisation

The Bargkoppelweg commercial site offers considerable development potential thanks to the ongoing construction projects by METRO and DHL as well as existing large plots of land owned by a small number of owners. Larger building structures will become superfluous as a result of the new projects, creating space for innovative redensification and conversion. The large commercial yards, often equipped with 1-2-storey halls, not only offer space for structural densification, but also the opportunity to achieve improved internal development through coordinated planning by the owners. This could significantly optimise commercial, pedestrian and cycle traffic and increase the attractiveness of the location. A well thought-out reorganisation of the site would have positive effects for the entire area and could significantly enhance the functionality and infrastructure of the location. This would benefit both existing companies and local residents by enhancing the quality of life and economic dynamism of the site. Synergies between existing companies and new uses could also provide impetus for joint infrastructure projects or cross-industry cooperation. This could not only make the use of space more efficient, but also develop a sustainable, resiliently networked commercial district.

Headquarters of the Hamburgische Münze in the street Bei der neuen Münze in Hamburg Rahlstedt

Hamburgische Münze

The Hamburgische Münze, located on the Bargkoppelweg industrial estate, is the oldest mint in Germany and an important part of Hamburg's history. Its primary task is the minting of euro coins for the Federal Republic of Germany, recognisable by the mintmark "J". Trial minting for the euro began in Hamburg in August 1998 in order to cover demand until the introduction of the euro in January 2002. The coin production process begins with a design, which is converted into a plaster model and then digitised. The coins are minted with precision and up to 150 tonnes of pressing force. The Hamburg Mint can mint and package over two and a half million coins a day, which emphasises the efficiency and importance of the plant. Through continuous modernisation and innovation, the Hamburg Mint secures its leading role in European minting and contributes significantly to the high quality of the euro coins.
