Tradition and craftsmanship

Bargkoppelweg is an established business location that is characterised by trade businesses. Companies such as Elektro-Ripakewitz GmbH, Grube Zentralheizungsbau- und Haustechnik GmbH as well as a long-established foam manufacturer pay tribute to this heritage. Elektro-Ripakewitz, whose history dates back to 1860, has been offering comprehensive electrical engineering services in the greater Hamburg area since 1920. Thorsten Meyer is the fourth generation to manage the traditional family business. Meanwhile, Grube Zentralheizungsbau- und Haustechnik GmbH, which was founded in 1884, provides customised solutions in the field of heating and bathroom design. Trust is crucial here, as each project is realised individually according to the customer's wishes. The foam manufacturer has been supplying tradesmen and companies throughout Germany since 1973. With an extensive product range, it strengthens the local economy and supports customers with high-quality materials. The Bargkoppelweg site thus offers a solid foundation for innovation in craftsmanship while upholding traditions that are still maintained by the company today. This combination of tradition and innovation makes Bargkoppelweg an attractive location for future-oriented craft businesses and sustainably strengthens regional economic growth.

Development potential

The Bargkoppelweg commercial site offers considerable development potential, particularly through unused and underutilised areas that are ideally suited for more intensive use. These areas offer opportunities for existing companies wishing to expand as well as new ones looking to set up business. A significant share of the existing buildings date back to the 1960s and no longer meet the current energy and functional requirements of modern businesses. Against this background, systematic revitalisation measures could create new jobs and increase the location's attractiveness. As part of such revitalisation, state-of-the-art building technology could be integrated, thus also contributing to the climate targets of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In addition, new architectural and urban development concepts could provide fresh impetus for high-quality development measures of the entire site. Close cooperation between business, urban planning and political stakeholders can create a clear framework for sustainable growth. The aim is to develop the Bargkoppelweg commercial site into an innovative sustainable location for companies that meets the needs of modern commercial enterprises and contributes to the region's economic strength in the long term.

Options for redesign

The site provides major development opportunities thanks to the ongoing construction projects by METRO and DHL as well as existing large plots of land owned by a small number of owners. As a result of these projects, larger building structures will become superfluous, creating space for innovative redensification and conversionm measures. The large commercial yards, often equipped with 1-2-storey halls, not only offer space for structural densification, but also provide the opportunity to leverage the site's potential full through coordinated planning efforts by the owners. This could significantly optimise commercial, pedestrian and bicycle traffic and improve the attractiveness of the location. A systematic redesign would have positive effects for the entire area and could significantly enhance the location's functionality and infrastructure. This would benefit both existing companies and local residents by driving the location's quality of stay and economic mementum. Moreover, synergies between existing companies and new usage concepts could provide impetus for joint infrastructure projects or cross-industry cooperation. This would not only make the use of space more efficient, but also help develop a sustainable, resilient commercial district.
