Summer of Pioneers: country life on trial in metropolitan region

Grabow enables 20 creative people to live and work together for joint benefit

Twenty creative and digital workers began a six-month trial of living and working together in Grabow in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region in May, thanks to the "Summer of Pioneers" funding scheme.

Discounted accommodation and co-working spaces

Participants in the "Summer of Pioneers" scheme benefit from discounted furnished accommodation with an internet flat rate and free access to co-working spaces and the DeveLUP Incubation Centre in neighbouring Ludwigslust. In return, they will try to make Grabow a more vibrant, public place and carry out urban development, new work, housing projects as well as arts and cultural events with local people.

Designing new housing models in the countryside

Emphasis is on new housing models e.g., houseboat mooring, caravans or living with neighbours in a vicarage or in a former factory. The city is designing and testing new housing models with the participants. The focus is also on activating and reusing historic buildings in the region. After stops in Germany and Switzerland, the "Summer of Pioneers" scheme is now stopping over in Grabow the Hamburg Metropolitan Region where it is being carried out by Neulandia.
