Day tickets are still available despite limited contingents. No box office will be set up this year. Some 120 concerts and about 40 events from the arts, word, film and discourse mean this year's Reeperbahn Festival 2020 will feature only a fifth of the volume in previous years. Numerous musical newcomers and well-known national and international bands will take to stages in the clubs. Highlights include local heroes Die Sterne, indie-pop singer Drangsal, Danish singer Tina Dico, German-American rapper Akus Naru and British singer-songwriter Tom Gregory.
Organizers of the Reeperbahn Festival Hamburg have announced a pandemic-proof version of events at this year's festival, underway from September 16-19, 2020 in St. Pauli. Up to 2,300 visitors are expected at around 120 gigs on 30 stages in clubs, theatres and at open air venues all of which comply fully with rules on hygiene and social distancing. The Reeperbahn Festival Conference for trade visitors will be go digital for the first time this year. Most concerts will be on streamed on www.reeperbahnfestival.com free of charge.
Hybrid of real und digital - live-tickets available
Digital Reeperbahn Festival Conference
The Reeperbahn Festival Conference, one of the world's leading industry events and meeting places for stakeholders across the music industry, will go fully digital with about 100 talks, sessions, panel debates and over 200 speakers. The pandemic-proof edition of this year's festival makes for a hybrid event that combines live events in front of an audience with digital offers. The reduced number of live concerts will be offset by expanded digital offers to give those who are unable to attend an opportunity to experience the festival virtually as never before on live streams and video-on-demand options.
Anchor – Reeperbahn Festival Music Award
One of the Reeperbahn Festival’s (live) highlights is the presentation of the ANCHOR Award to up-and-coming musicians on September 19, 2020. Reviewed and selected live on stage by music greats such as producer Tony Visconti and ex-Spice Girl and successful musician Melanie C., six nominated artists and bands will vie for the prize. The finalists will perform on stage in front of a live audience beforehand. More information can be found on www.anchor-award.com.
Music city of Hamburg supporting music scene
The City of Hamburg is putting an additional EUR 500,000 bringing the total to EUR 410,000 towards efforts to achieve a pandemic-proof, yet comprehensive digital Reeperbahn Festival. The increased funds for Hamburg’s cultural scene and the unprecedented scale of public support for arts and culture highlights the importance of live music for Hamburg at large. Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, noted: “This year’s Reeperbahn Festival is sending a clear and important signal to the entire music scene, illustrating how club culture can go ahead in the corona era."
