Awards, investments and innovations across metropolitan region - from Fehmarn to Soltau, Cuxhaven to Schwerin

Lüneburg:: Everything revolves around 3D printing and AI on Technology Day 2025 (March 4, 2025) at Leuphana University. Emphasis is on technologies that give companies a competitive edge and solutions for more efficient production. Several practical examples and presentations will give a glimpse of the future. The Technology Day in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, is organised by Süderelbe AG, the Lüneburg Economic Development Agency, Leuphana University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Additive Production Technologies (IAPT). Registrations are now being accepted.

New railway station in Schwerin Industrial Park

Schwerin: Commuters will soon be able to travel from the main railway station to the industrial park in just twelve minutes. The new station outside Schwerin Industrial Park allows employees to get to work faster and in an environment-friendly manner. Trains on the Rehna-Schwerin- Parchim line will stop every hour. The state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Deutsche Bahn have invested around EUR 2 million  in the new station. The industrial park is home to twelve companies including Nestlé and the medical technology manufacturer Yposmed with around 1,200 employees.

Promoting tourism in Schleswig-Holstein

Itzehoe: Schleswig-Holstein's sights and events range from the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lübeck to the outstanding Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and fairytale lake landscapes in  popular hotspots on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts. The Schleswig-Holstein Inland Tourism Working Group based in Itzehoe has set aside EUR 10 million for coastal tourism. Experts work jointly on projects. Click here to learn more.

Lübeck getting new industrial estate

Lübeck: A new Green Business Park is being built especially for SMEs in the south of Lübeck.  Spaces can be combined and are suitable for production, warehouses, laboratories, offices, exhibitions as well repair and maintenance centres. Transport links are excellent and space can be rented now.  The park will open its gates in the second half of 2025.

New transformation funding

Warnemünde: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has launched a new funding scheme for projects that change the world of work with artificial intelligence and attract skilled labour. A launch event will be held on March 6, 2025 with Dr Wolfgang Blank, Minister of Economics. The agenda features funding guidelines and presentations of AI applications in companies. Registrations are being accepted until the deadline of February 28, 2025.

Reopening of Geesthacht railway line

Geesthacht: The states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein have announced plans to reopen the railway line between Geesthacht and Hamburg, which was shut down 70 years ago. AKN Eisenbahn GmbH will draft the preliminary plans which foresee operating commuter trains between Geesthacht and Hamburg-Bergedorf and later to Hamburg Central Station. Hopes are now high that more rail links across the Hamburg Metropolitan Region will give commuters more environment-friendly travel options.
