The 19-metre long catamaran can transport 50 passengers and 15 bicycles at speeds of up to 16 knots. The new route also targets tourists and day visitors for a fare of EUR 13 per single trip. “Our environment-friendly hybrid catamaran ‘Liinsand’ is low-emission and sails on the Elbe and in ports entirely free of emissions and is battery powered,” according to Reederei Watten Fährlinien GmbH, the operator of the ferry, on its website.

Hybrid catamaran Liinsand now connecting Hamburg, Wedel and Stade
The new hybrid drive Liinsand ferry became waterborne Monday (August 5, 2019) and is now linking up the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. The ferry departs from the Fischmarkt in Altona thrice daily for Stade (Stadersand) via Wedel (Schulau) and ferries passengers back down the Elbe. The catamaran is servicing a brand new route between Hamburg and the metropolitan region.
